Approaches to Bodywork

Therapeutic Massage

Therapeutic Massage uses hands-on techniques to address muscular tension, discomfort and areas of restriction while supporting relaxation and ease of movement. My approach is individualized and adapted to your needs and preferences.

Depending on the session, therapeutic massage may be used on its own or integrated with Myofascial Release or Craniosacral Therapy.

Myofascial Release

Myofascial Release (MFR) works with the fascial system, the connective tissue that surrounds and supports muscles, bones, nerves and other structures throughout the body.

Rather than using force, MFR uses sustained pressure maintained long enough to allow the tissue to soften and release at its own pace. Because fascial restrictions can create tension and pull beyond the area where symptoms are felt, treatment often considers patterns throughout the whole body rather than focusing only on the place that hurts. This is done without the use of oil or lotion.

My approach is informed by the John F. Barnes Myofascial Release Method.

Craniosacral Therapy

Craniosacral Therapy (CST) is a gentle, light-touch approach that works with the craniosacral system, which includes the membranes and fluid surrounding the brain and spinal cord.

Using subtle hands-on techniques, CST focuses on identifying areas of deep tension and restriction and supporting the body's natural ability to release them. Treatment may involve gentle contact with the head, spine, sacrum or other areas of the body. Many people find CST deeply relaxing and restorative.

My training in Craniosacral Therapy is through the Upledger Institute.
